Representing Sufferers Of Asbestosis

Asbestosis is a breathing disorder caused by inhaling asbestos fibers. A noncancerous disease, asbestosis causes inflammation and scarring of the lungs. Asbestosis can have debilitating health effects, including reduced lung capacity, that require extensive, long-term health care.

Typically, asbestosis appears 15 years or more after the initial exposure. Some individuals diagnosed with asbestosis live their lives with minimal or no breathing impairment. Others afflicted with asbestosis require oxygen to function and breathe. In the most serious cases, asbestosis can be fatal. It can also often be a precursor to deadly conditions like lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Asbestosis is considered an occupational lung disease because so many people develop it after long-term asbestos exposure on the job. There is no known cure for asbestosis; only treatments to ease its effects.

What Are The Symptoms?

Symptoms of asbestosis include:

  • Shortness of breath (primary symptom)
  • Decreased tolerance for physical activity
  • Persistent cough
  • Chest pain or tightness
  • Finger clubbing in some cases
  • A dry, crackling sound in the lungs while inhaling
  • Loss of appetite

If you have developed asbestosis, please contact an attorney at Savinis, Kane, & Gallucci, L.L.C., to arrange a free initial consultation and case evaluation. We help victims of asbestosis recover financial compensation for the damages including pain and suffering, current and future medical bills, lost wages, and more.
