Pedestrian loses life in accident south of Pittsburgh

Pedestrians, unlike drivers, are unprotected when they walk on the sidewalks and pass crosswalks in Pennsylvania. However, they do have the law to protect them. Traffic regulations require drivers to yield to pedestrians while they are on crosswalks and intersections. Drivers are also required to steer clear of pedestrians walking along sidewalks. Nevertheless, there are still drivers who do not obey traffic rules and regulations and the safety of pedestrians. An Ellsworth man is facing charges for allegedly being one of those drivers.

The 42-year-old man was arrested after being involved in a fatal pedestrian accident. According to police, the man was driving his pickup truck when he struck a 29-year-old female pedestrian. The coroner for Washington County pronounced the woman dead later that night. After allegedly causing the accident, the driver fled the scene but police later located his vehicle and apprehended the man. He was charged with homicide and driving under the influence. The man was detained in Washington County and was denied bail.

The loss of a loved one, whether in a pedestrian accident or any other tragic incident, is always difficult, especially when it was caused by another person's negligence. There is also the pain of knowing that the accident could have been prevented if the responsible person did not act negligently. However, despite the grief, family members may get a measure of justice by filing a wrongful death lawsuit. The legal action seeks to hold the negligent party accountable while, at the same time, seeking monetary damages.

Although compensation cannot bring back the loved one or ease the grief of family members, it can help make sure that the surviving family does not suffer financial loss because of the tragic incident. After all, family members may have been dependent on the income of their loved one before the accident occurred.
