Product liability: Nap Nanny Infant Recliner causes another death

Product liability often involves defective products that may have caused injuries or death to the consumers. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, consumers should always check for product recalls to ensure that the products that they have bought are safe for personal use. However, sometimes, product defects are not visible. Some defects develop over time. For example, an apparently safe product, such as a bicycle, may have some defects that can cause the bicyclist to lose control, resulting in an accident that can be fatal.

Nap Nanny Infant Recliner, a product by Baby Matters, LLC, has been subject to product recalls since 2010. Recently, the same defective product was linked to another infant's death. Based on the report, the person who was killed, an 8-month-old baby girl, was trapped between the crib and the recliner. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is urging the owners of that particular recliner to stop using the defective product to prevent injuries and death.

According to CPSC reports, a baby is at risk while using the Nap Nanny recliner through suffocation, or, if the baby falls partially over the side of the recliner, causing the baby to become trapped between the crib bumpers and the recliner. Based on the report, the defective recliner is no longer being sold in U.S. stores. Unfortunately, those who have bought the product may still be unaware of the potential risks of the recliner. The owners of the product should stop using it immediately after being informed of its dangers in order to avoid accidents.

In the event of such a tragic accident, a Pennsylvania product liability attorney can provide assistance to the family of the victim. The legal professional can review all angles of the case to determine how the defective product caused the death, and so that the responsible parties are held liable.
