There is nothing worse than losing a loved one in a tragic and preventable accident. From product liability cases to workplace accidents, when fatal accidents in Pennsylvania do take place the family of the deceased may be able to file a civil action know as a wrongful death claim against the responsible party. In such cases, plaintiffs may seek damages for medical costs, lost wages, funeral expenses, pain and suffering and much more.

The widow of a man who died after taking a medication known as Pradaxa has filed a wrongful death suit against the drug manufacturer. According to the complaint, the man had suffered from left frontal and bilateral cerebella subarachnoid and intraparenchymal hemorrhage that landed him in the hospital for two days before he finally passed away as a result of the serious injuries.

The man had reportedly been taking the direct thrombin inhibitor since 2007 for a heart rhythm disorder. Despite approval of the drug by the Food and Drug Administration in the fall of 2010 the lawsuit alleges the drug manufacture did not properly warn of its hazards. The complaint further cites more than 500 reports of death related to the drug in the U.S. and many more reports of serious side effects related to patients taking the medication.

Individuals injured due to serious medical mistakes, hospital negligence or dangerous medications may have a legal right to seek damages for any injuries they suffer as a result. In the present case, the plaintiff says she incurred estate expenses, funeral costs and medical bills as a result of her husband’s untimely death. The plaintiff is asking the court for $75,000 in compensatory damages and unspecified punitive damages.
